So, yeah, who am I? My name is David Carpenter and I am a student at the University of California, in San Diego. I picked this school over Berkeley and other unversities for its tremendous sunny weather. For the uninformed, my school is in scenic La Jolla, where it is always sunny. So I'd like to point out that today, around 4:30 PM as I was about to walk to my Chemistry class, it started to hail, and was freezing cold. Even in paradise we get winds and cold weather. But I love the rain, and the outdoors in general so it doesn't get me down too much.
What do I do at college? I am currently studying Political Science, with no intent beyond my bachelor's in my mind. Long term plans? Hah! I am currently a freshman here, about halfway through the acedemic year, since our 3rd quarter kicks in this March. I also am working on minors in Japanese Studies, and Chemistry (which is fast turning into Biology, perhaps Ecology!) However, career is not a word in my vocabulary. I am taking classes on what I want to learn out of interest. I think when I get out of hell, er, college, I will go to Africa with the Peace Corps and work towards environmental preservation. I am into nature, outdoors, the wild, and things like that.
So what else do you want to know? Well, as I said, I am an outdoor man. I love to hike, go camping, swim, surf, scuba dive off our California coast. I love sports, especially baseball, what a great past-time, and soccer. Go San Fransisco Giants! I love fast things, such as planes, cars, and other methods of self-destruction. As much as I am the wild man though, I have a quiet side. I love reading if the book is right, and I absolutly love the art medium of cinema. Good movies (key word: good, not Steven Segal, etc.) drive me crazy, and viewing movies with me is the quickest path to my heart. Perhaps you wanna check out my listing of sweet movies. I love music, its my catharsis, especially rock and roll. I also love classical and jazz. Don't get me started on Rap, and today's popular 'music' does not count as real music. It is merely a bad Las Vegas stage show with digital sounds. I can do better with my midi program. Music has chords, lyrics, instruments, and vocalists. I also spend perhaps too much time devoted to this scrap pile computer, a 6 month old Sony VIAO with more features than I will ever use. I work on html when I am so inclined, but college keeps me too busy to ever get really good. I also watch DVD with the computer, burn totally legal music with my writer, play some video games (who doesn't?) and chat with friends.
How can you find me? One of several ways of course, since college life keeps me in here on weekdays, unless I am at work. I have AOL Instant Messager, and can be reached at my buddy name 'selfmademinority.' Or email to [email protected] or [email protected]. I use the first one primarily, but hotmail works too. I also have a live web camera which you can access to see me when it's turned on. The best time to see me live is, of course when I am on AIM since I will be around. If you are really really nice I may even give you my street address. Ha, just kidding.
In conclusion, spend some time to explore the damn site, because I have spent hours putting actual content into it. What is content you ask? Its that stuff that is supposed to be on web sites but you never can find it among all the swirling gifs and flashy lights. Unlike most of my peers, I have put [relatively] useful information on my web space, so check it out and write me a mail if you like it or don't like it. I never sign anyone else's stupid guestbook (like they check those anyway) so I wouldn't expect you to sign mine, and I didn't make one for that exact reason. If you have something to say, email me. Anyway, check my list of cool movies, favorite bands, see my weird friends and hear some of them talk. Read my opinions of stuff if you dare! And mostly, have a nice day. There are more pictures of me below if you're curious. And remember, be nice to animals- hug a hockey player! Aiite, keep it unreal. -Dave
